Six arrested after fight at South Carolina sandbar, sheriff says

Six people were arrested following a large fight at the 601 Sand Bar on the Congaree River in Calhoun County, South Carolina, deputies say.

CALHOUN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, June 20 (Infinite Headlines) — Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies arrested six people after a June 6 fight at the 601 Sand Bar on the Congaree River in South Carolina, where authorities said more than 20 people were involved and more arrests are expected.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said the brawl broke out during the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run. Sheriff Thomas Summers said alcohol was a factor, and deputies identified numerous cases of underage drinking.

Authorities said at least three people were injured, with injuries ranging from swollen eyes to head injuries. Summers said the injuries were severe.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and detectives are still reviewing video and public submissions as they work to match names to faces.

The office said the six people arrested were Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell and Taylor Knudson. They face various assault and breach-of-peace charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities have not publicly said what sparked the fight.
