INGLEWOOD, Calif., June 26 (Our Los Angeles) — The United States men’s national team lost its final Group D match 3-2 to Türkiye on Thursday in Los Angeles, but the result did not change its path forward: the Americans had already clinched first place and are set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 on July 1.
Auston Trusty and Sebastian Berhalter scored for the U.S., which led at one point before Türkiye answered through Arda Güler and Barış Alper Yılmaz. Kaan Ayhan scored the winning goal late in stoppage time, according to FIFA’s official match record.
The match was played at SoFi Stadium and drew 70,492, per the official report.
The U.S. had secured advancement before the Türkiye match on the strength of its first two group wins, including a 4-1 victory over Paraguay on June 12 and a 2-0 win over Australia on June 19.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s spot on the U.S. side of the knockout bracket was set by the official tournament standings, with the round-of-32 match reported for Santa Clara, California.
