NEWARK, N.J., July 17 (Nationwide Times) — Panasonic is recalling more than 13,000 electric toaster ovens sold to U.S. and Canadian shoppers after regulators said a cord insulation problem could create a shock or fire hazard, prompting customers who bought the appliances on Amazon and Costco to stop using them.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall covers Panasonic model NB-G200 toaster ovens, including stainless steel units with the temperature knob on the bottom and the Panasonic name on the front. The agency said about 11,480 units were sold in the United States and about 2,184 in Canada.
According to the commission, the ovens were sold online at Amazon.com, Costco.com, Panasonic.com and other online platforms nationwide from October 2024 through April 2026 for about $170. Panasonic said the protective fiberglass sleeve may not fully cover the power cord, leaving the insulation insufficient.
The agency said it had received four consumer reports of tripped circuit breakers or outlets and one report that the product stopped working. No fires or injuries have been reported.
A Costco member letter from Panasonic Corporation of North America said Costco records show some members bought Item #2024930 between February 2026 and April 2026. The letter said affected customers can return the product to Panasonic for a refund or to a Costco warehouse customer service window for a full refund.
