NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville said Democrats need to talk about a party ‘schism’ after New York primary wins by candidates backed by Zohran Mamdani, saying he cannot be in the same party as Darializa Avila Chevalier.

On the Politicon podcast, as quoted by Fox News and other outlets, Carville said he was ‘done’ and ‘not in that f***ing political party.’ He said people who did not share his views should ‘start your own movement’ or ‘form your own party.’

Carville also said he did not want to be in a party ‘that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist.’ He said the fight was also tied to comments attributed to Avila Chevalier about interracial relationships and told her, ‘You’ve got no place at my table.’

Avila Chevalier was described in the coverage as a Democratic congressional candidate and union organizer. The same reports said she won a New York Democratic primary, along with other progressive candidates including Claire Valdez and Brad Lander. Carville had previously warned in a July 2025 New York Times op-ed that Democrats were ‘steamrolling toward a civilized civil war’ and said it was ‘necessary’ to delay that fight until after the 2026 midterm elections.
