WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — The Senate rejected Sen. Tim Kaine’s Iran war powers resolution 50-47 on Wednesday, blocking a measure that would have required congressional approval before further U.S. military action involving Iran.

Rand Paul voted present. Kaine’s proposal would have directed President Donald Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities involving Iran unless Congress authorized further action.

The vote followed a closed-door lunch at the Capitol in which Trump criticized Senate Republicans over the Iran issue. Sen. Bill Cassidy later said Trump “raised his voice” and “I lost my temper.”

Trump later wrote on Truth Social that the vote “puts Iran on notice.” The resolution had advanced last month on a 50-47 procedural vote, with support from Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
