NEWS UPDATE – Sen. Lindsey Graham Dies at 71 Following Brief and Sudden Illness
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has died at the age of 71 after what his office described as a “brief and sudden illness.” The announcement was made Sunday, with the senator’s family requesting privacy as they mourn his passing.
Graham served in the U.S. Senate since 2003, becoming one of South Carolina’s longest-serving senators and a prominent figure in national politics. His death marks the end of more than two decades of service in the Senate.
No additional details about the illness were immediately released by his office. Family members expressed gratitude for the prayers and support they have received during this difficult time while asking the public to respect their privacy.
Funeral arrangements and memorial service details have not yet been announced.
WASHINGTON, July 12 (DC Times Online) — A death claim about Sen. Lindsey Graham could not be confirmed from official Senate pages, which still listed the South Carolina Republican as chairman of the Budget Committee and a member of three other committees.
Graham’s Senate biography says he was elected in 2002 and began representing South Carolina in 2003. It says he was re-elected in 2008, 2014 and 2020.
The biography also lists Graham as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and as a member of the Senate Appropriations, Judiciary and Environment and Public Works committees. His office page lists a Washington, D.C., office in the Russell Senate Office Building and an office in Greenville, South Carolina.
Britannica says Graham was born in Seneca, South Carolina, on July 9, 1955, and served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003.
